John Abore
John Abore is the Chief Executive Officer/Director or the founder of OratCare Institute of Health (OIH), a nonprofit organization founded in March of 2023 in Portland, Maine, with the Maine purpose of fostering education, healthcare, cultural integration, environmental awareness, and support cultural activities inclusive of networking to overcome cultural shock in North America. John Abore is originally from South Sudan, and he escaped the violence and impending war by retreating with his grandparents to a refugee camp in Uganda at the age of five (5). John Abore grew up under challenging conditions but was able to study and complete local high school on scholarship in 2000 due to his commitment and dedication to hard work.
Due to the hard life in Refugee Camp in Uganda, in 2002, my aunty applied for a family reunion to come to the United States. In 2004, we arrived in New York, a port of entry, before proceeding to the State of Maine, my second beautiful home from Uganda as refugees. Once here in the United States, I completed my Associate degree in Liberal study AA with a concentration in Mathematics from SMCC in 2008, an undergraduate degree in Health Services Management (HSM) from Virginia College in 2012, a master’s degree in public health with specialization in Management and Policy, and a Post-Master Certificate for College Teaching from Capella University in 2015. He also holds Certification certificates from the University of Southern Maine in Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community (MHRT/C) and Behavioral Health Professional (BHP), Infection Control and prevention (ICP).
Previously, John worked as an Anatomic Pathology Technician (APT), Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) at Nordx Laboratory (MaineHealth Laboratory) for over 7 years, Portland Public School as a Cultural Broker, or Parent Community Specialist (PCS) or School Translator or Interpreter), Educational Technician III (ED TECH III) throughout the school district, helping new Mainers (New Families in Maine) to assimilate into the vastly different cultures in the United States. Currently, John works as Case Management at Gateway Community Service in Portland Maine.
John Abore is the proud father of five children, and he believes in giving back to the community. As a founder of OratCare Institute of Health (OIH), John Abore believes in good leadership and the opportunity to follow a good example that one must follow with the commitment and legacy for excellence; where honesty, empathy, passion, and integrity can play a role model in the success of the organization. John Abore and his wife live in Portland, Maine, with five young children and nephews.
